A New Year’s Blessing

This Year–

May you listen to your life
and hear it as a sacred story that you are in.

May you listen to your body as to your dearest friend
and honor what it has to tell you.

May you listen to your dreams for the mysteries that they hold
and know them as the wise guides of your soul.

May you listen for the silent voice of God in the cave of your heart
and give in to the solace or the summons that you hear.

May you listen to the other, whether friend or stranger, human or more-than-human, with the reverence and eagerness due a beggar or a saint.

May you listen at the margins to those who live on the edge
so that your center will not hold unless it holds the edge.

May you listen to the wild in all its many dialects and forms
and humbly let it teach you what it has learned from the beginning of time. © djm 2013.
