The Work of Christmas Begins – (Again)

I posted Howard Thurman’s famous poem “The Work of Christmas” in 2014 and 2016. Keeping with my every other year pattern, I post it yet again. It would be worth your time to listen to Dan Forest’s beautiful choral arrangement. The words of the text are below.

When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among brothers*,
To make music in the heart.”

  1. Dan, Happy New Year and thank you for all your amazing postings through Advent and Christmas! I’ve been reflectively enjoying them as I catch my breath from our blessed season and striving to look forward with love to new year. This piece of music is so beautiful! I’ve forwarded to our high school choir directory as potential for next year, and he thinks he will use it!
