Dido’s Lament

There is nothing more whole than a broken heart.
~ Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk

Just one common deed done with love (repeat) ~ djm

Some are guilty, but all are responsible. ~ Abraham Heschel

Just no words sometimes to match the moment, especially an extended moment like we are in. Hard for me not to hear the cry of the earth — REMEMBER ME, REMEMBER ME — the cry of over 400,000 which is one person, one child or grandfather or mother or brother or sister or friend or neighbor 400, 000 times, each one the image of God, an unrepeatable miracle, of infinite worth, who belongs to someone, to someones, to us, if we could wake up and commit ourselves to keeping each other awake — REMEMBER ME. REMEMBER ME — The only hope, trust, even joy that I can lean into these days is one that comes at the end of a lament, as is the pattern in most of the nearly 50 laments in the psalms. Any real, lasting healing our country or planet comes by will be in and through a collective cry of the heart. The litmus test of the integrity, honorableness, care, and heart of any generation is how it treats the most vulnerable in their midst — human and other-than-human-life-forms. Anything less is to attempt a spiritual bypass which leads to the exit of unreality and dying in our sleep. “Some are guilty., but all are responsible.” Will that preach?
