The Only Sensible Thing to Do

Over time I’ve learned

the first expression of prayer is the child’s wonder.

And once they get their first taste of wonder

they pray more and more and more.

As children grow up and become adults

they seem to pray

less and less

and less.

As adults grow older and older and older

they seem to pray

more and more and more.

Seems to me the only sensible thing to do
is either to keep growing younger
or to keep growing older.

    • Well, Michael, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you this, but as the father of three, and knowing the age of your children, you’ve got some little spiritual guides sleeping under your roof. Take notice, again and again and again.

  1. Hi, Dan, thank you for this lovely offering. One of the blessing of life for me is being a grandmother who gets to delight in all the awe and wonder expressed of my grandson.
    Warm Blessings!
