Poem 7 for the Season of Creation*

OUT CAMPING

Today comes walking over the water
in the early morning. A bird scribes
the skin of the lake. Everything trembles.
Ours is the world of the swallow wing,
a scene turning and curving, and we are
in it, scribing our own reflection of heaven.

William Stafford

REFLECTION:
• “Everything trembles.” When was the last time you trembled from the wonder of it all?

• Like the bird on the water, we are scribing our story while we are here. What story do you want to leave the world and those who come after? If you could only scribble one sentence, what words would you leave behind?

* The Season of Creation, running from September 1 to October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, brother to all life forms especially the most vulnerable, is being celebrated more and more as a liturgical season by Christian communities of faith.
